Recycle Week – 14 -20 August – Rescue Me, Recycle

Recycle Week is an annual event which helps to remind us about the importance of recycling. The campaign is organised by Recycle Now and has been running since 2004. This year the campaign is keeping its ‘Rescue Me, Recycle’ theme, which is aimed at encouraging us to recycle the items that often get forgotten. This year they are focusing on bathroom items, such as aerosol deodorants, glass perfume and scent bottles, plastic bottles from hair and body products (and cleaning products), toothpaste tubes and other plastic tubes, along with the cardboard roll from the toilet paper.

Recycling these everyday items keeps the raw materials in use for longer, prevents the materials from going to waste and helps to preserve our natural resources. Capturing these forgotten or missed items can really make an impact and our individual actions do matter and collectively make a huge difference.

Recycle Now are introducing some new characters and storylines to the mix this year, which we’ll be sharing across our social media platforms: Facebook: @Leicestershire Recycling and @leicscountyhall.

Remember that items do need to be rinsed first (not the cardboard though!) and for something like a toothpaste tube, ensure the contents are fully squeezed out, pop the lid back on and recycle.
