This website is run by the Leicestershire Waste Partnership (the Partnership), which is composed of the seven borough and district councils of Leicestershire, and the County Council.
The Partnership collectively works towards it's primary aim of improving the management of municipal waste in Leicestershire. Leicester City is an associate member as it has made its own arrangements for future waste management.
The members of the Partnership redrafted the existing joint strategy to form the Leicestershire Municipal Waste Management Strategy 2006, which forms the basis of our joint approach, and establishes policies and objectives.
Our targets include recycling and composting:

Our Vision:
"Leicestershire is pursuing a clear vision for sustainable waste management and resource use. Waste should first be prevented from arising, be reused, recycled or composted. Any residual waste that has not been reused, recycled or composted should be treated before disposal so that further value can be recovered and so that the impact of final disposal is minimised. Through the collaborative efforts of the Partnership, a majority of Leicestershire’s waste will be recycled by 2010, growth in waste production will be in decline and local communities will be taking responsibility for the waste they produce.”
The Partnership is guided by the Member Steering Group (MSG), comprised of a Member from each partner authority, which meets at least six times a year to discuss major waste management issues in Leicestershire. Supported by senior officers from all eight partner authorities, the MSG makes recommendations to each partner council.
