Leftover Ingredients Recipe Competition Terms and Conditions

  1. The Leicestershire County Council (the “Council”) leftover ingredients recipe competition (the “Competition”) runs from 9 March 2023 to 26 March 2023, and is free of charge and open to all Leicestershire residents (excluding residents of Leicester City) aged 18+ or those who have parental consent (“You”). The Competition is running as part of Food Waste Action Week and aims to share recipe ideas to reduce food waste. The Council staff and immediate members of their families are excluded, or anyone else connected with the Competition.
  2. To enter the Competition, please use the Council’s Competition submission form to tell the Council about your own recipe to use up leftover ingredients/surplus food.
  3. Only one entry is permitted per person.
  4. As part of the submission form, you will be asked to provide some personal data. Personal data will be processed in a fair and transparent way. You will be asked to tell the Council your full name, address, email address and to confirm you are aged 18+ or if you have parental permission. The Council will use this information to verify that you are a resident of Leicestershire and that you are eligible to participate in this Competition. If You win, the Council will post your prize out using the address details provided on the submission form.
  5. The Council will use your name and the area that you live in if your recipe is shared in the pdf recipe book or on the Council webpages  / social media accounts. This will be visible to other participants.
  6. If your submission is successful/published, the Council may ask to use your submission for publicity and promotional services however the Council will always ask for your consent before doing so. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted and will not be featured in the recipe book.
  7. The Council will ask if You consent for your name to be shared, along with your recipe and any associated content You upload (only first names and area of residence will be used). You are under no obligation to provide consent, but if not please make sure You do not include any identifiable information with your recipe or any associated content You upload or the Council will not be able to use it.
  8. If You do not wish to share your name and location, then the Council can publish the recipe anonymously on the website and social media accounts.
  9. The information You provide will not be used for any other purpose and will be stored securely on our internal systems.
  10. The Council will only keep this information for as long as necessary or as the law requires. For this service the Council will dispose of all entrant information upon completion of the Competition.   11. The Council will accept Competition entries submitted between 12:01am on 9 March 2023 and 11:59pm on 26 March 2023. Entries received outside of this timeframe will not be considered.
  12. If You wish to upload any associated content (for example, images of the food, ingredient lists or written recipes) via the Council’s submission form, then please ensure that You have created the content yourself and You are happy for the Council to share the content (intellectual property) in a pdf recipe book, Council webpages and social media accounts.
  13. Your entry (and any associated content) must be your own work, must not be copied, must not contain any third-party materials and/or content that you do not have permission to use and must not otherwise be obscene, defamatory, discriminatory, offensive or in breach of any applicable legislation or regulations.  You declare that, to the best of your knowledge and belief, no third party can claim any rights or otherwise on your entry (including any associated content) submitted. If the Council believes your entry (or any associated content) is not your own work or otherwise breaches this clause 12 the Council may not consider it. The Council accepts no liability in the event of intellectual property disputes or liabilities arising as a result of or in connection with your entry (including any associated content) or this Competition.
  14. As You are the author of your Competition entry You will own the copyright to it.
  15. By submitting an entry to the Council’s Competition, You give the council: a) permission for your entry (and any associated content) to be published in whatever form and on whatever media determined by the Council, and grant the Council a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to republish your Competition entry in electronic format and/or hard copy for purposes connected with the Competition or the Council’s food waste action initiatives; and b) subject to consent being granted by You, the right to use your name and area of residence for the sole purpose of identifying You as the author of your entry and/or as a winner of the Competition.
  16. The Council will screen submissions and associated content based on its suitability to appear on the Council’s webpages and social media accounts. The Council will assess each submission on its individual merits, looking to avoid; repetition, copyright infringement, recipes that we feel might inadvertently create extra waste, and any discriminatory / offensive content. The Council‘s decision on this is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
  17. Any recipes The Council feel are suitable for sharing will be included in a pdf recipe book alongside your name and area of residence which will be available on the Less Waste website in Summer 2023. The recipes will be assessed on their individual merit and the winner will be chosen by Cabinet Member for the Environment and the Green Agenda. There will be a winner who will receive £30 Central England Co-op voucher.
  18. The Council will contact the winner via email at the start of April 2023 to let them know that they have won, to confirm what they have won, and to confirm postage details. The Council will endeavour to post the prize by 17 April 2023, but accepts no liability for postal delays. Furthermore, the Council accepts no liability for the prize being lost, damaged, stolen, or delayed in the post. The Council reserves the right to choose an alternative winner, or to withdraw the prize for any reason. Cash will not be given as an alternative to a prize.
  19. The Council will delete all personal details relating to Competition entries by the end of May 2023, unless there is a legal obligation for the Council to retain a record. For example, the Council will keep a record of consent to share images and other content You have submitted.
  20. The Council will not be responsible for any Competition entries that are incomplete or not received by the closing date, due to any technical difficulties, malfunctions, or any other problem with any server or internet access or for any other reason. Proof of dispatch or delivery of the entry will not be accepted as proof of receipt.
  21. By entering the Competition, You warrant that You meet the eligibility criteria and have legal capacity to enter and agree to be bound by these terms and conditions, and any other Competition instructions made by the Council.
  22. The Council accepts no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered by You or a third party arising as a result of You: (i) entering the Competition, or (ii) accepting any prize, or (iii) breaching any of these terms and conditions and You agree to fully indemnify the Council against any claims by a third party arising therefrom. The Council further disclaims liability for any injury or damage to You or any other person’s computer relating to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials in connection with the Competition.
  23. The leftover ingredients recipe competition is being run by Environment and Transport Department, Leicestershire County Council, County Hall, Glenfield, Leicestershire, LE3 8RA. Any complaints regarding the Competition should be sent to this address.
  24. The Council reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or cancel the Competition at any stage if deemed necessary and / or amend these terms and conditions, without notice. In any of these events the Council will publish these changes on www.lesswaste.org.uk and You agree that the Council will not be liable as a result of these changes. It is your responsibility to keep yourself informed as to any updates of these rules.
  25. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted.
  26. The Competition and these Terms and Conditions will be governed by English law and subject to the jurisdiction of the English courts.
