Chilli con carne (using leftover bolognese)

Around 1.8 million tonnes of food a year is wasted in UK households because in the period between buying/preparing a meal and the time it comes to eat it, we’ve changed our minds about what we want to eat (Source: WRAP). If you don’t fancy finishing your batch cooked bolognese, this recipe offers a quick conversion to a chilli con carne.

  • Leftover bolognese sauce (meat or vegetarian)
  • 1 tin of red kidney beans
  • 1 tin of baked beans
  • Chilli powder

  1. Add kidney beans and baked beans and a bit of chilli powder (according to taste) to the bolognese mixture
  2. Store in the fridge overnight and reheat thoroughly the next day
  3. Enjoy with rice, nachos, or jacket potato
