International Repair Day 2026

October 12, 2026

International Repair Day celebrates something simple but powerful: repairing the things we already own.

Whether it is a faulty toaster, a favourite coat with a broken zip, a wobbly chair or a bicycle that needs attention, repair can save money, reduce waste and help us get more value from our everyday possessions.

Successful DIY repairs are satisfying, but not everyone has the tools, time, skills, qualifications or the inclination required for every repair job.

Fortunately, Leicestershire benefits from having a network of community repair organisations who have knowledgeable and well equipped repair volunteers who are ready to help fix a vast range of household items, often for free or for a donation to help cover costs if replacement parts are needed.

This international repair day, 17th October 2026, is a great opportunity to spend a couple of minutes finding out more about community repair organisations, locating your nearest group and finding out out when and where they meet. You never know when you might need their help, and if you do have something in a cupboard or draw that’s in need of a fix, its a good opportunity to see if your local group can help.

You’ll find lots of information about community repair groups in Leicestershire on our repair pages.
