Free Recycling and Waste Prevention Sessions for Loughborough Primary Schools

July 3, 2026

Primary schools in and around Loughborough are being invited to take part in a new education initiative offering free assemblies and classroom workshops focused on recycling and waste prevention next term.

The sessions are being delivered by Loughborough University undergraduate students, working with Leicestershire County Council’s Waste Initiatives Team through the Environment Action Volunteer Programme.

The aim of the programme is to help young people understand:

  • What happens to their waste
  • Why recycling matters
  • Practical ways to reduce waste at school and at home

The workshops are designed to be engaging, age‑appropriate and interactive, supporting schools to build sustainability into everyday learning while reinforcing positive environmental behaviours from an early age.

What schools can expect

Participating schools can request:

  • Whole‑school assemblies (approx. 20 mins)
  • In‑class workshops tailored to primary age groups (approx. 50 minutes)

All sessions are free of charge and will be delivered by trained student volunteers with support from the Council’s Waste Initiatives team.

Schools can book sessions now for next term.
