Celebrating Our Environment Action Volunteers
June 5, 2026
Across Leicestershire, a dedicated group of volunteers is making a real difference, and this Volunteers Week we want to say a sincere thank you to every one of them.
Our Environment Action Volunteers give their time, skills, and enthusiasm to support a wide range of environmental initiatives. That includes:
- attending events and speaking with residents about waste and recycling
- helping people to cut back on food waste
- supporting reuse via school uniform swaps
- promoting the benefits of home composting in gardens, allotments and schools
- promoting simple steps to support nature, such as protecting local green spaces and making places more wildlife-friendly
- promoting active travel; encouraging people to consider walking and cycling for shorter journeys as a practical, healthy alternative to driving.
We regularly hear how much communities value the advice, conversations, and friendly support our volunteers provide. It’s this local, down-to-earth approach that helps people feel confident taking small, manageable steps that benefit both their local area, their own wellbeing and the wider environment.
Making a difference together
By volunteering, individuals not only help improve their local area but also gain valuable experience, meet new people, and get involved in their community. Every event attended and every conversation had helps spread practical ideas that people can take away and use in their daily lives.
Get involved
We are always looking for more people to join our network of Environment Action Volunteers. If you’re interested in helping your community and supporting practical environmental action, we’d love to hear from you.
