Become an Environment Action Volunteer and help shape a more sustainable Leicestershire

November 6, 2025

We’re looking for passionate individuals from all corners of the county to join the Environment Action Volunteer (EAV) scheme; to help drive positive change in their communities and to support the work of Leicestershire County Council’s Waste Initiatives, Environment, Climate Resilience, and Sustainable Travel teams.

What do EAVs do?

EAVs take part in a wide variety of activities, including:

  • Encouraging others to reduce household waste, recycle more effectively, and compost garden waste and kitchen scraps
  • Promoting nature conservation and biodiversity
  • Inspiring residents to choose active travel options like walking, wheeling, and public transport

 How do EAVs get involved?

Volunteers contribute in many ways, such as:

  • Running stalls at local events
  • Delivering talks, assemblies, workshops and webinars
  • Creating content for social media and newsletters
  • Supporting online campaigns
  • Helping parish councils manage green spaces and tackle invasive species
  • Assisting with e-bike training sessions

Who can apply?

We welcome applications from:

  • Leicestershire residents aged 18 or over (excluding Leicester City and Rutland residents)
  • People from all backgrounds with an interest in waste, nature, and sustainable travel

No previous experience is required—full training is provided. All you need is time, enthusiasm, and a willingness to get involved.
