Spoiled Rotten
October 10, 2019

Astonishingly, 20% of the foods we buy in the UK go to waste – that’s 1 in every 5 bags of food to leave a supermarket.
A major cause of food waste in the UK is that we buy more than we can eat. The scale of this food waste has led the food waste prevention Charity Love Food Hate Waste to release a new campaign encouraging consumers to look seriously at their food wasting habits, but also offering some simple help to deal with the most common causes of food waste. That includes a plea for the nation to check and adjust the temperature of their fridges to 5°C or below:
Love Food Hate Waste have released a collection of free online tools to help you make the most of your foods, prevent waste and save money. These are accessible via their Spoiled Rotten campaign page which is full of interesting information. But if you want to go direct to the tools please use the links below:
- A – Z food storage guide – Storing your foods properly prolongs their usable life.
- Chill the fridge out – a guide to checking and adjusting the temperature of your fridge so it keeps you food fresher for longer.
- Portion planner / calculator – So you don’t buy, prepare or serve more than you need
- Recipe finder – type in what foods you have, out pops a recipe. Simple inspiration for using up leftovers and other foods that you might otherwise waste.
