Leicestershire is a top performer when it comes to recycling and composting - but there will always be rubbish leftover which has to be treated and disposed of.

The Leicestershire Municipal Waste Strategy aims to meet government targets for reducing waste to landfill. As part of this aim, Leicestershire County Council is leading two new waste treatment schemes.

The first will see a new Mechanical Biological Treatment plant built. This innovative facility will help divert rubbish from landfill until a long-term scheme is introduced around 2015.
