Leicestershire is a top performer when it comes to recycling and composting - but there will always be rubbish leftover which has to be treated and disposed of.

The Leicestershire Municipal Waste Strategy aims to meet government targets for reducing waste to landfill. As part of this aim, Leicestershire County Council is developing waste treatment solutions.

A Mechanical Biological Treatment plant has recently opened, designed to help divert rubbish from landfill until a long-term scheme is introduced.
