The Leicestershire Waste Partnership is updating its waste strategy.
The document is a fundamental part of Leicestershire’s approach to sustainable waste management, setting out the key objectives and policies that guide the development of services in Leicestershire.
All Leicestershire authorities are signatories to the strategy, which we're currently updating to ensure that it remains fit for purpose and relevant in today’s ever changing environmental and economic climate.
The strategy was last reviewed in 2006, establishing a number of challenging recycling and composting targets. So far all of these targets have been met, propelling Leicestershire up towards the top of the recycling and composting table for a county partnership.
This is a fantastic achievement, made possible by the hard work of residents and dedication of local authorities to quality service provision. However, the challenge of meeting future targets is very real.
By updating the Strategy the Partnership can ‘take stock’ of our current position and ensure that we continue to achieve our goals.
The Leicestershire Waste Partnership has a clear vision for sustainable waste management, where we prevent waste from occurring, recycle and compost more and treat what remains before disposal. To achieve this, we have established objectives and policies which are detailed within the Leicestershire Municipal Waste Management Strategy 2006.
