Business Waste

Experience in the UK suggests that businesses across a range of industries can save 4-5 per cent of turnover by employing waste minimisation techniques. With the cost of waste disposal rising rapidly, this figure could be on the increase.

If your business would like a talk or presentation on waste as part of an Environmental Awareness Day or to reinforce recycling at work to your staff we can help.Click here to find out more.

Good reasons to minimise your business waste

Waste disposal costs. By finding ways to reduce waste disposal costs, your company could become more profitable.

The true cost of waste is often hidden. Often only the expense of disposal is recognised, but throwing out waste can be throwing away money. Cost savings can be made through improved resource efficiency - savings that go straight to the bottom line.

Your reputation. Customers, financial institutions, employees and suppliers have a growing interest in a company's environmental performance: waste minimisation will show them how effectively and efficiently you control operations.

Legal consequences. Businesses have a legal duty to ensure their waste is disposed of responsibly and are responsible for arranging and paying for their own waste and recycling collections. Stiff penalties exist for failing to comply with environmental legislation, which get tougher each year. If you are a business producing or disposing of waste, there are various regulations that you need to comply with to ensure that you don’t get prosecuted.

Closing the Loop

The Closing the Loop campaign is part of Leicestershire County Council’s drive to target a wider demographic and maximise the success of our campaigns, whilst also promoting our message across a more representative profile of Leicestershire residents. We aim to raise general awareness of the 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) through promotion of the Council and Leicestershire Waste Partnership campaigns.

Our team is experienced in conducting presentations and workshops, and have spoken to a wide variety of groups and residents across the County. Our talks and activities can be tailored to the needs and availability of your staff; therefore, if a full day is not suitable, we are able to offer a number of other packages to your staff. Whether you would prefer just a presentation, a stall over lunch or mini workshops throughout the day, we can work around your company’s requirements. If you are interested in what we could offer your staff and would like to discuss this matter further, please contact Waste Management on 0116 305 7005 or email wasteprevention@leics.gov.uk

Please note that we are not able to advise you on how to deal with your business waste, but can help reinforce your recycling systems to your staff. We can advise your staff how they can better manage their waste at home, which should impact on the use of the recycling facilities at work. If you require advice on how to deal with your business waste click here for a list of useful contacts.
