Waste Certificate
Schools can now take part in an exciting waste reduction programme. With the Waste Certificate schools are taken on a step by step waste reduction journey. All that is needed is dedication and motivation to reduce waste in school. This program is designed to educate pupils of the importance of reducing waste.
Talks and Activities
There are a range of activities that schools can request which an Education Officer will carry out at the school. These are on an availability basis. Examples of talks and activities can be viewed through this link. A number of these activities could be carried out by the school themselves.

Textiles Collection
Your school can earn money and reduce waste. Take part in the schools textile collection and earn £400 per tonne of textiles collected.
This scheme arranges for textiles to be collected from your school that have been bought in by pupils, parents and even the wider community.
Not only will you receive money per tonne of clothing you will also be entered into a competition which gives prizes for the top 3 schools that have collected the most textiles per child.
Working this out as an average per child allows smaller schools a fair chance in the competition.
How are clothes recycled?
First of all, the bags of clothes will be weighed so that we know how many clothes your school has collected. The clothes will then be sorted out and sent to countries where people cannot afford to buy new clothes. Any clothes that are not suitable for re-use will be used for cleaning cloths or filling for items such as car seats or mattresses.
What can be recycled?
Clean and dry clothes (suitable to be worn again)
Household linen such as sheets, towels and curtains
Leather items such as shoes (tied together in pairs please), handbags and belts
Soft toys
What can’t be recycled?
Duvets
Pillows
Pieces of fabric e.g. off-cuts
Soiled clothes or rags
Carpets or rugs
