The Action Plan

Now that your school has an Eco Committee and is aware of the amount and types of waste it is producing you are ready to draw up your action plan.

The Action Plan is core to you reducing your waste and should be developed using the results of the Waste Sort. The Action Plan should be supported by everyone involved with the school.

An education officer will be on hand to help you develop an action plan which has achievable targets and realistic time scales.

The Action Plan

The areas of focus in the action plan are as follows:

  • Look at the results of your waste sort. Identify the problems that were found. This could be recyclables in the waste stream or a high proportion of items that cannot be recycled. Log this information on the action plan.

  • Discuss how waste is collected in school. Is any recycling taking place?

  • Discuss how current practices could be improved and what action needs to be taken.

  • Decide what your measure of success will be. Make sure the action you take is something that you can measure.

  • Decide realistic timescales for each action.

  • Assign people to be responsible for each action. This could be pupils, staff or anyone else within the school community.
