Leicestershire Waste Partnership is trying to encourage people of all ages to use reusable bags every time they shop, when they go to the supermarket and when they go shopping for things like clothes and DVDs.
In fact, every household in the UK still gets through an average of 400 plastic carrier bags each year*. Most of these go to landfill, others end up in the branches of trees or in rivers or lakes.
Research has shown us that young people, especially young males are still less likely to use a reusable bag for shopping. One reason for this may be the lack of appealing designs for this age group. So, pupils across Leicestershire were invited to create a stylish design for a reusable bag that them and their friends would want to be seen with!
The winning designs as seen above will be used on reusable bags, which will be given out as part of Leicestershire Waste Partnership’s reusable bag campaign.
