Leicestershire Recycling Services

Yellow Recycling Box

Recycling in Leicestershire is a high priority and our performance is one of the best in the UK. There are many different facilities and services in place, from recycling centres to kerbside collections, to help householders in Leicestershire recycle and save as much waste as possible from being buried in landfill.

To make it easier for people to recycle at home, local councils have provided different boxes, bags or bins to separate different types of rubbish that can be recycled including paper, glass, cans, plastic bottles, cardboard and textiles. For other recyclable items that can’t be collected there are lots of alternatives places where people can take their household rubbish to be recycled. These range in size from a glass bank on your local car park, to one of the “Recycling Household Waste Sites” (civic amenity sites) that can offer recycling of wood, metal and even batteries.

The different councils in Leicestershire manage the different schemes. District and Borough councils manage kerbside collection schemes and 'bring' recycling sites that are commonly found on local car parks (including supermarkets). The County Council manages the 'Recycling Household Waste Sites' that are much larger and can take a larger range of materials. There are 14 of these RHWS in Leicestershire.
