The Bokashi bins will digest all kitchen wastes including fruit and vegetable scraps, raw and cooked meat or fish, dairy products and other organic kitchen waste e.g. bread etc. You cannot use the Bokashi bin for any garden waste or bones.
Your Bokashi bin comes complete with a bag of Bran additive, however this is an ongoing requirement for the system to work effectively. You will need to purchase this (approx £40 per year).
The Bokashi bins work using a fermentation process. The system is designed to work in pairs with one bin inside the other, you place
your kitchen waste in to the top bin, compact it to remove any excess air and then add some of the Bokashi mix (a mixture of Bran and micro-organisms) this should be repeated until the bin is full. Once the first pair of bins is full you should start to use the second pair of Bokashi bins.
The fermentation process will take approx. 2 weeks after which you will have a liquid collected in the bottom bin which can be diluted and used as a fertilizer for your plants. The remaining contents can then either be buried in the garden where they will finish breaking down or added to your compost heap.
The size is Width 32cm x Depth 26cm x Height 27cm
Your Bokashi bin needs to be kept inside either in your kitchen or another warm area, however it must not be on or near food preparation areas. The Bokashi system is designed so that it does not create any unpleasent smells.
